Giveclarity donate £40,000 to New Ways

Giveclarity are delighted to be donating £40,000 to New Ways to directly fund 3 nutritional nurseries in Turkana, Kenya and 5 boreholes in Malawi.
Nurseries:
This project is split across three mother and child centres in Turkana.
These nutritional nursery schools (shown in photo above) help to realise the potential of underprivileged Turkana children who live in a very difficult environment that has been very badly hit by climate change. The project makes a huge difference to their lives by giving them an improved environment and materials for learning, basic essential medical support, and food leading to improved nutrition. What a nursery child eats will have a striking and lasting impact on the child’s other physical and mental health throughout adolescence and adulthood. It is therefore essential and crucial that food of nutritional value is provided.
Interestingly, New Ways has a number of nurseries set up in 2004 in Northern Kenya, where they work in partnership with one of our customers, Mary’s Meals, who have been supplying food to these nurseries for the children since 2007.
Boreholes:
Having safe water close to homesteads is critical to health and wellbeing. With Giveclarity’s support, New Ways are working to secure the installation of 5 boreholes in Benga, Malawi. Around 85% of the local population are agriculturalists so water is critical, yet other water sources such as streams and lakes are exposed to contamination.
This project will deliver:
- 5 boreholes to 5 different communities.
- Installing a water pump in each of the 5 boreholes.
- Building 5 clothes washing bays.
- Provide training on water and sanitation for all the communities benefiting from a borehole.
These boreholes will support approximately 60,000 people.
New Ways is a UK registered charity, established in 1994, supporting development work in Kenya, Ethiopia, South Sudan and Malawi. Its main focus is in education, small scale agriculture, healthcare, water and nutrition.
