Salesforce Training: It’s Not About Clicks, It’s About Connection!

Let’s be honest: most Salesforce training doesn’t stick. Not because people are lazy or tech-averse — but because we often forget the humans in the room.

After years of running training sessions across the nonprofit sector, I’ve learnt that what really makes training work has less to do with technical knowledge, and more to do with psychology, confidence, and a dash of humour. So here’s my take on training that actually works—and won’t put people to sleep.

🧠 Start With the Humans

People don’t fear Salesforce. They fear change. New systems mean new ways of working, and that’s inherently uncomfortable.

Good training starts with empathy. It acknowledges that learning is emotional. It makes space for uncertainty. And it meets people where they are, not where you are.

✨ Sprinkle in the Magic Ingredients

Let’s ditch the slides full of fields and functions. The magic formula is simple:

  • Hands-on – People learn more by doing, not watching.
  • 📦 Bite-sized – Chunk your content. No Salesforce Kool-Aid, please.
  • 🤝 Psychological safety – Make it okay to ask “silly” questions.
  • 📖 Stories over steps – Humans remember narratives, not navigation.

And yes, make it user-friendly. Explain it in a way that it’s easy for anyone to grasp.

💪 You Matter More Than You Think

You don’t need to be a Salesforce encyclopedia. You just need to be calm, clear, and real.

Confidence isn’t about knowing everything. It’s about creating an environment where people feel comfortable exploring, failing, and asking for help.

Smile. Pause. Don’t be afraid to use silence. People will remember how you made them feel—far more than the buttons you clicked.

🦕 Beware the Purple Dinosaurs

Every trainer knows the type: someone who pipes up with, “That won’t work because of our custom Apex flow from 2012…”

Don’t let them derail your session. Here’s your survival kit:

  • Validate – “Tell me a bit more about that ….”
  • 📌 Park it – Add it to a ‘car park’ for later.
  • 🔄 Pivot – Gently steer the group back on track.

It’s not about shutting people down—it’s about protecting the learning space for everyone else.

Final Thought…

🧠 ✨ 💪 🦕
Training is never just about technology. It’s about trust.

So whether you’re leading a training session, onboarding new team members, or just explaining how to run a report—remember this:

Train like a human, not a robot.

Because at the end of the day, its not about clicks, its about connection.
