About Guide Dogs

Guide Dogs are here to help people with sight loss live the life they choose.

Over the years they have developed a wide range of services with and without dogs to support people living with a vision impairment. Children and adults. Friends and family. Whoever you are, their expert staff, dedicated volunteers and life-changing dogs are here to help you live actively, independently, and well.

They are a charity, almost entirely funded by donations, and are the world’s largest assistance dog organisation. As world leaders in puppy socialisation and dog training, they are the only organisation to breed and train guide dogs in the UK. They are also the largest employer of specialists dedicated to helping children and young people overcome the challenges of sight loss.

The Challenge

  • To deliver an IT Solution to support the delivery of the Guide Dog Service, covering the life of a Guide Dog from pre-birth (breeding) through forming a partnership with a person who is blind or partially sighted, all the way through to retirement.
  • The project aimed to deliver real-time reporting and high availability of information for decision making/performance improvement within the organisation, ultimately to improve the services they provide, and the positive impact Guide Dogs has on Service users.
  • The business case for the Project was to provide Guide Dogs with a flexible and easily configurable platform that could grow with the organisation as it expands to provide more mobility services to people who are blind and partially sighted.

The Solution

  • Implementation of Salesforce CRM to manage key stages in the life of a Guide Dog from pre-birth through forming a partnership with a person who is blind or partially sighted, all the way through to retirement.
  • A team of onsite developers working together with Guide Dogs – the largest reason for success was the professionalism, determination, desire and skill of the Project Team as a whole, and the collaborative environment in which Giveclarity and Guide Dogs worked.
  • The project was referred to internally as GDIR.

The Results:

  • Providing a flexible platform for future growth and service expansion
  • Creating an holistic view of the service provision and client engagement, enabling improved service delivery
  • Improved operational reporting capabilities to track and manage the performance of the organisation
  • Supportable internally by IS, reducing dependency on 3rd Party support
  • Receive a score of 92% in a Guide Dogs IS survey at the time
