Plan International Belgium

Strengthening supporter relationships in a changing nonprofit landscape

About Plan International

Plan International Belgium is an international  girls’ rights organisation.

Across the globe, girls face more risks and fewer choices. In times of crisis and conflict, they are hit hardest. The international NGO stands with girls to fight for their rights and build an equal world where every girl is free – from violence and oppression,  to go to school,  and  free to make their own choices.

A member of the worldwide Plan International federation, Plan International Belgium works alongside local partners to advance girls’ rights and support girls as they lead change in their communities. The NGO  runs programmes in Belgium and in partner countries across Latin America, Africa, and South-East Asia. It also provides humanitarian assistance in crisis situations.

The Challenge

NGO’s face increasing pressures from rising acquisition costs and high attrition rates. Traditional CRM approaches focused solely on broadening the supporter base are no longer sufficient: instead, charities must shift toward deepening relationships, encouraging existing supporters to engage more frequently and across multiple touchpoints.

For Plan International Belgium, this shift highlighted a major technology challenge. They could no longer provide the unified view of supporters they needed. To deliver personalised engagement at scale, they required a single CRM platform that brought all supporter data together in one place.

Plan International Belgium needed a solution that would:

  • Eliminate fragmented data sources
  • Provide a complete 360° view of every supporter
  • Strengthen retention and reduce attrition
  • Free their team to focus on building meaningful donor relationships rather than managing disconnected systems

The Solution

  • To overcome the challenge of disparate systems, the answer was  Agentforce Nonprofits and Marketing Cloud – a unified, scalable platform designed to help nonprofits create richer, more personalised supporter experiences.
  • On top of the out-of-the-box  Salesforce Nonprofit functionality, we developed a data model allowing Plan International Belgium to manage child sponsorships – a funding model that offers donors the possibility to sponsor one child and her/his community.
  • We created a way to safely manage data about children and donors.
  • Designed a marketing-friendly data model and pre-built audiences in Marketing Cloud for faster, simpler segmentation.
  • Enabled personalisation using richer supporter, sponsorship, and child attributes.
  • Delivered fully bilingual communications, allowing campaigns to dynamically adapt for French and Dutch audiences.

The Results

Initial results already demonstrate the impact of the new technological foundation:

  • Duplicate databases, manual list handling and fragmented consent management have been eliminated.
  • Supporter welcome journeys are already showing very strong engagement.
  • The Marketing team now has access to a much broader set of data attributes to power segmentation and dynamic content.
